Following the boom of New Nordic Cuisine came the growing interest in aquavit as a ingredient on the international cocktail scene. O.P. Anderson, Swedens oldest and most celebrated aquavit, aimed to take lead in this progress and launch the worlds first aquavit cocktail book. The ambition was to display the heritage, tradition and craft behind the product. And to combine it’s deeply rooted position in Swedish culture with cutting edge cocktails mixed by some of Swedens most ingenious bartenders. All with the intention to create a contemporary classic.
As a part of a very tight team I did the graphic design and illustrations, working together with Calle Magnusson (photographer & writer) and Sanna Sundin (editor & writer). We put the entire book together in five weeks, doing everything from planning, photographing, writing, illustrating, designing and color proofing. We wanted to show the personalities of the dedicated people behind the bars in the photographs. And illustrations interacting with the bartenders is the spirit of O.P. visualizing the character of the cocktails. The overall design aims to represent the past, present and future of aquavit.
The book came 3rd in the Spirit section of Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2017.
